Hillsborough Castle Gardens – Discover 100 acres of ornamental lawns, meandering waterways, peaceful woodlands and picturesque glens that surround Hillsborough Castle, Northern Ireland’s official royal residence. Highlights include the tranquil Lady Alice’s Temple, where former resident, Secretary of State Mo Mowlem, once found welcome respite from the pressures of politics and Granville Garden, a favourite of HM The Queen. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the Walled Garden! Dating back to the 18th Century, the four-acre site historically used to produce fruit, vegetables and flowers for the castle

Important information

Toilets are available The cafe in the Lower Visitor Centre in the Western Pavillion is open 0900-1600. The cafe at the Stableyard will remain closed for the foreseeable future. The onsite shop in the Western Pavillion is open. . Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and enjoy picnics in the gardens only Personal photography is not permitted inside the Castle.

Disabled Access The estate is very large and spans 1km from Pineapple Yard to the State Entrance. Hillsborough Fort is a further 500m from the castle. The State Rooms are all on the ground floor and accessible to all.
